Why smart people buy Cubic Zirconia Diamonds
Why diamonds are expensive
In the beginning when diamonds were discovered the price of a diamond was high because it was beautiful.
The stones were clear, and reflected almost all the light that went into them giving them the shine that we love.
The value of a diamond today is set by the fact that the stone is “rare” and not that it has a special shine.
The reason for this is that there are many other stones these days that have the same or a similar shine to that of a diamond. Therefore the price is set by the rarity and not the shine.
The difference between Cubic Zirconia Diamonds and real Diamonds
In the last years, diamond manufacturing has excelled and there is now a lot of new technology that makes it possible to artificially create stones that look just like real diamonds as long as you aren’t looking through a microscope looking for tiny flaws.
These artificial stones that are manufactured today have a very similar shine to that of a real diamond, but they cost a fraction of what a real diamond would cost.
The most popular artificial diamond is called Cubic Zirconia Diamond or CZ Diamond.
The biggest differences between a CZ diamond and a real diamond are the following:
- Hardness: A CZ diamond is less hard than a real diamond. This does not mean it will break more easily, it just means that it's not suitable for purposes like drilling tunnels for example, like real diamonds are.
- Weight: a CZ diamond weighs about 1.7 times as much as a real diamond. This is one of the reasons you will see jewelers bounce diamonds up and down in their hands to feel the light weight.
